For students in Charleston, math and history classes are not the same song and dance! Kristen Alexander, the founding Artistic Director of Annex Dance Company, is making the traditionally static subjects come to life by teaching fractions through movement and giving students studying the Roaring 20’s the chance to learn and perform period dances.
Kristen has taught across the country and in addition to running her company, she is also a teacher at the College of Charleston. The Annex Dance Company, which moved to Charleston four years ago, is focused on growth and expansion through education, outreach and collaboration. In the short time they have been here they have impacted our community in so many ways by inspiring kids to love learning, by collaborating with local artists and organizations and by making their art available to everyone. This was exemplified last weekend as the Charleston Marathon participants and spectators were treated to live performances on the race route!
