Thanks for sharing your super powers, Julie Buelk! | Volunteer Spotlight

Our next volunteer spotlight is Julie Buelk. Julie started volunteering with Engaging Creative Minds (ECM) last fall and this SUPERSTAR came into our office every week to help out with administrative and operations tasks. She always showed up with a positive attitude and is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. Aside from helping out in the office, she also volunteered at various outreach events. THANK YOU for being a spectacular volunteer!

What motivated you to volunteer with ECM?

With the state of the world these days, I really believe if we want to make a difference we need to start with the generation that has the ability to make a change in the world. Then I saw the social media videos of the summer programs. The kids looked like they were having so much fun while doing projects that encouraged them to learn and better themselves and the world around them. What I believe seemed to line up directly with what ECM does.

What makes this volunteer experience a meaningful use of your time?

The people I have met and helped through my experience makes it worth it.

What is the biggest benefit you receive as a volunteer with ECM?

I feel like I am helping make a difference, even if it is only in a small way. Every little bit helps.

What is the most memorable accomplishment and/or moment of your volunteer experience?

I really enjoyed my time helping at the College of Charleston’s Lady Cougar Day. We had students from all over Charleston trying to build towers with spaghetti noodles and marshmallows. Watching their brains work to create the towers was really cool and inspiring, though very sticky.
