Program Description: Storytree Theatre is an organization of people who believe that theatre is integral to children’s development. The Experiences help students build communication skills, expand vocabulary, perform team member responsibilities, and think creatively and critically at a higher level. Storytree staff members work with classroom teachers to create a standards-based theatre experience for students. Experiences are flexible and can be designed to accommodate each school or classroom’s needs.
Sample Experiences:
K – 2nd – ELA/SCIENCE/MATH – Playwriting – An experience that can encompass any curriculum the teacher is looking to teach. Using the art of storytelling, Teaching Artists lead students through engaging games that teach vocabulary and crucial curriculum. The experience ends with students presenting their original plays.
3rd – ELA/SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES – Teaching Artists create custom lesson plans that infuse standards-based curriculum with engaging theatre games that culminate into an original performance created by students. Examples include: Myths, Fables, and Fairytales; States of Matter; Causes of Revolutionary War
4th – ELA/SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES – Teaching Artists create custom lesson plans that infuse standards-based curriculum with engaging theatre games that culminate into an original performance created by students. Some examples of topics – Westward Expansion; Revolutionary War; Abstract concepts of Electricity
5th – 8th – ELA/SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES – Teaching Artists create custom lesson plans that infuse standards-based curriculum with engaging theatre games that culminate into an original performance created by students. Some examples of topics – Feudal System; Explorers; Periodic Table; Shakespeare.

The Poe Project is a funny and haunting exploration of the works of Edgar Allan Poe (including, Tell-Tale Heart, Annabel Lee, The Raven, and Murders in the Rue Morgue). In this 55-minute performance, Poe interacts with 2 of the writer’s fictional characters, Inspector Dupin and the Raven, as he struggles to write, create and ultimately attain every artists’ ambition–a sense of place and purpose.

Penelope and the Gods of Olympus tells the story of young Penelope Pratt being stranded after dark in her town’s local museum of art. Frightened and alone, Penelope finds comfort in surprising friends as the museum statues magically come to life in the form of Artemis and Apollo. This 40-minute play delightfully weaves Greek myths and the importance of community together while inviting the audience on to the stage to help tell the stories of the gods and the lessons they teach us about how our choices affect ourselves and those around us.
